PRESENTATION: The Story of Juneteenth – Where It All Began
Dr. Alexandra Jones
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Archaeology in the Community

Dr. Jones is an education leader focused on community outreach and service. She completed her Ph.D. in Historical Archaeology at the University of California, Berkeley in 2010. Her work focuses on African diaspora archaeology, community archaeology and archaeology outreach. Jones has been an archaeology educator for more than 16 years with an aim to make archaeological knowledge accessible to all.

She also worked as Field Director of Archaeology for the PBS television show, Time Team America, where she directed field schools for middle school and high school students at different archaeological sites around the United States. Her current research projects are the Estate Little Princess Archaeological Project in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands and the Morningstar Tabernacle No.88 Moses Cemetery in Cabin John, Montgomery County, Maryland. Dr. Jones serves as the President-Elect for the Society of Black Archaeologists, the Chair for the US Cultural Property Advisory Committee, the Board of Directors of the St. Croix Archaeological Society, and is an Academic Trustee for the Archaeological Institute of America.

Valet parking is available at the hotel, and attendants can assist upon check-in at the property. Self-parking is also available in the parking garage across from the Dauphin Street entrance. The parking garage is located at 8 S. Water Street, Mobile, Alabama 36602, and is attached to the Riverview Plaza Hotel. No parking fees are covered by the Foundation and are also the responsibility of the parent/guardian. You are also welcome to secure other parking in the general vicinity that may work best for you. Please be sure to plan ahead.
