The Maynard 4 Foundation is proud to announce Ms. Shonnda Smith as a Workshop Presenter for the 2024 Miss Juneteenth America Scholarship Pageantry Program!

Shonnda Smith is a seasoned professional entrusted with the oversight of departmental initiatives across the Public Works Directorate within the City of Mobile. With her responsibilities spanning key areas including Engineering, Parks and Recreation, Programs and Project Management, Public Services, Real Estate and Asset Management, and the Office of Strategic Initiatives, Shonnda plays a pivotal role in driving forward the city’s agenda for progress and development.

Having assumed the role of Director of the Parks and Recreation division in 2019, Shonnda has swiftly garnered recognition as a visionary leader and catalyst for change within the City of Mobile. Her tenure has been marked by a commitment to transformational leadership, evidenced by her strategic overhaul of programming, reporting structures, and policies. With a keen eye on the future, Shonnda is dedicated to creating a Mobile that residents can take pride in calling home.

Before joining the City of Mobile, Shonnda served as the Chief Programming Officer for the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, where she honed her expertise in community development and engagement. A proud resident of Mobile, Shonnda actively engages with the local community as a board member of the Mobile Arts Council, contributing her insights and leadership to promote artistic endeavors within the city.

Beyond her professional roles, Shonnda is deeply committed to advancing the field of parks and recreation on a national scale. She serves on the Program Committee and Magazine Editorial Board for the National Recreation Parks Association (NRPA), leveraging her expertise to shape industry standards and best practices. Additionally, Shonnda generously dedicates her time and expertise to several community organizations, including the Red Cross of South Alabama and the Bishop State College Foundation Board, where she recently assumed the role of Vice-Chair.

With a track record of impactful leadership and a passion for community service, Shonnda embodies the spirit of civic engagement and drives positive change both locally and nationally. Her dedication to excellence and unwavering commitment to advancing the well-being of communities make her a respected leader and invaluable asset to the City of Mobile and beyond.
