Let’s get to know Leatha!

Q: Why do you want to be crowned Junior Miss Juneteenth America or Teen Miss Juneteenth America?

A: I want to be crowned Miss Juneteenth America to show everyone that they can be whatever they dream to be, and that if they keep on keeping on, their dreams can become a reality. I want be a role model for younger people of all color and share with them about African American history. I want to encourage them and to show them all that we can be. I also want them to know their skin color is more than just a color, but that it is a story of your family, your ancestors and that it is POWER.

Q: How would you serve as a role model as the crowned Junior Miss Juneteenth America or Teen Miss Juneteenth America?

A: As a role model, I want to show girls of all ages that they can achieve their dreams and anything if they put their mind to it. To share my knowledge and learn with them about black culture, I want them to know that we are descendants of kings and queens, that we are not a stereotype, and that we are more than we even know!

Q: What is the key to success?

A: To me, the key to success is to keep on, keeping on. When I talk about keep on, keeping on, I mean to spearhead your work, prayer, striving and exceed your goals and expectations. As my mom says if you fail to plan, you plan to fail, so keep on going with your dreams and goals! Your success is what you make it, each day is a blessing and whether big or small you keeping on and holding your head high is your key to success.

Q: What is your proudest accomplishment?

A: My proudest accomplishment is becoming apart of SAG-AFTRA and being Far Western Reginald President of the Xinos

Q: What charity did you select and why?

A: I chose The Cookstove Project because I love their story and their mission. I love how they are going around the world to help those that are less fortunate than us and to make and give them a stove and oven that will not harm them or their children and change/save lives. I believe that The Cookstove Project is doing great things and I hope to see them continue to grow and help families that saw no hope.

Q: How do you plan to use your scholarship?

A: I plan to use my scholarship to help me with my college tuition and books.
